A study on the relationship between cheese and soap
I got inspired by an article written by the historians Bas van Bavel and Oscar Gelderblom.
They raised the subject of Dutch cleanliness that appeared long
before the systhematic improvement of public hygiene. They based their work on a lot of sources and research. An important reason for the Dutch cleanliness
was the cheese production in Holland by small farmers. To obtain cheese of a high quality one discovered that hygiene was very important .
I started working with form and material that involved producing cheese and later on this became a research about making portions out of soap. My soap
has to be kneaded and pressed through a sieve to obtain portions.
